Services in September 2025
September 7th, 10 am, “Water Ceremony”, led by by Jenn Wade & Barbara Bogart. In this formal service, we will gather for our annual Water Ceremony when we celebrate coming back together after a summer of activities. Please bring along a small amount of water (real or virtual) to pour into the communal bowl.
September 14, 10 am, “Serenity Prayer”, roundtable led by Ken Chestek. Unitarian Universalists have varied relationships to prayer. We are all on different paths with widely varying beliefs; prayers that work for some UUs may be controversial or even offensive to others. But one prayer that seems to transcend religious beliefs and win universal acceptance is the Serenity Prayer. Even atheists who are struggling to overcome addictions may find solace or even power in that prayer. Ken Chestek will lead us in a discussion of why the prayer is so powerful, and how it has helped loved ones in our lives—or even perhaps ourselves?
September 21st, 10 am, “A Place for Doubt”, formal service by Rev. Rodger McDaniel. We must make room in what we believe for doubt because where there is only certainty, there is no room for faith. Questions are the rich soil in which faith blooms while nothing grows in the soil of certainty.
September 28th, 10 am, “Forgiveness and Redemption”, roundtable led by Maya Gilmore. We all make mistakes. As Unitarian Universalists, do we value forgiveness? How do you repair your errors? Can all mistakes be forgiven?
The Board is delighted with the work of our web master, Caitlyn Ganskow, who has been updating, revising, and organizing the UUFL website. As part of this renovation, we are inviting members to contribute to a new-and-improved version of our Social Action page, which is under the Community Involvement tab. We have listed a few organizations that our members support, and we’re inviting you to send a short paragraph (~75 words) describing a social action/service organization in which you are involved for inclusion on that page of our website. If you have something to contribute, please send it as either a Word document or as an email text to Jeff Lockwood (lockwood@uwyo.edu).

BULLETIN BOARD
Treasurer’s Report: our income appears bloated compared to expenses due to prepaid pledges for the entire year as well as typically low utility bills in the summer.
Insurance: Jeff is investigating other possible insurers as our premiums in the last two years have increased substantially.
Policy and Procedures: The Board is working on updating the Policies and Procedures that were last updated in May 2019.
At the August Board meeting, we decided to reestablish a combined Building and Grounds Committee. This will be an opportunity for anyone who wishes to volunteer for limited, one-time projects, and does not want to be burdened with monthly meetings. If you would like to volunteer your talents, please contact David (dperry@uwyo.edu).
Projects currently completed or underway:
*The roof repair is completed with a new membrane installed over the entryway and shingles replaced in the valley between the roof line of the original building and the addition. In addition, some downspouts were reattached and diverted to different areas away from the building.
**The Board approved a contract with Wylie Concrete to replace two sections of sidewalk as well as enlarging the concrete pad in the parking lot at the northeast corner of the sanctuary.
***The Board is awaiting an estimate from High Plains Janitorial for the restriping of the parking lot.
****We are also awaiting an estimate from Shamrock Electric for the repair or replacement of the ceiling fan in the sanctuary.
*****We need a volunteer or two to reinstall the crown molding in the small conference room with proper anchors so it will be capable of supporting the weight of the John Dumbrill painting.

The newsletter provides descriptions of upcoming services, messages from the board and the minister, and news of congregational and members’ activities. To submit information to the newsletter, contact uularamienews@gmail.com.
Our building is available for use by outside groups, subject to the board’s current policy. To reserve the building, contact David Perry at dperry@uwyo.edu.
Robin Chestek and Ken Chestek (460-9139) maintain the Membership database; please contact Ken if you have changed your address or phone number.
If you have an item that Caring Committee should be aware of, please contact Jim Erdelyi (Chair) at 307 760-8274. Other Caring members: Ralph Garrett, Robin Chestek, Sara Saulcy can be contacted.
NOTE: Nomination for the Memorial Plaque. If you would like to nominate a deceased person (member/friend) for inclusion on the plaque, please submit their name, year of death, along with approximate years of association with UUFL and a short reason for their inclusion. You may nominate more than one person. Kindly submit this information to Jim Erdelyi at erdelyi@wyomail.com or by filling out the hard copy form located on the rack in the social hall.
Thanks, from the Caring Committee.
